After school sessions

The Space:  Space at community level offers a set of possibilities characterized by freedom from the schedule of school, opportunity for informal engagement where students from mixed age groups can interact and work together.

Facilitator Role: The role of the facilitator in the process is to provide formal instruction, model certain habits of mind and also providing increasing opportunities to students to nurture capacities on socio emotional dimension and thinking skills.

The Curriculum:  Foundations of Citizenship and Socio Emotional Learning

To have one’s own voice, be able to evaluate situations at one’s own intellectual level and to relate to others is central to democracy. Social Science, by its nature is interpretive and multi disciplinary and thereby lends itself to nurturing critical thinking abilities amongst the students.

The curriculum has been designed to nurture citizenship skills, develop capacity for critical thinking which entails sub capacities such as logical reasoning, suspending judgement, seeking evidence, evaluating arguments amongst other capacties. Themes for discussions are drawn from the topics which are part of the curriculum and have been linked to real life instances.

Pedagogy: The teaching learning process involves progressive approaches such as discussions, story telling, project based learning and experiential learning.
